Outdoor Yoga

What is Wyda?

Sometimes called “Celtic Yoga", Wyda is a movement and breathing practice inspired by the traditions of the Celtic druids, who saw the body, breath, and natural world as deeply connected. Unlike yoga’s roots in India, Wyda draws on Northern European and Celtic heritage and is usually practised outdoors wherever possible, often beside a tree, stream, or in a forest clearing to use nature itself as part of the practice. It’s a relatively recently rediscovered and revived tradition, so much of the work is about reconnecting with what may have been lost.

I approach it with curiosity and respect for that history, not as a fixed or ancient science. At Yellow Rhino, I am possibly the first person (or at least one of the first) to bring Wyda back to Wales. I infuse it with gentle restorative movement, restorative yoga and qi gong, particularly for people recovering from injury or surgery (my own experience of hip replacement recovery informs my practise, rather than a textbook) so the practice adapts to real bodies, not just ideal ones. This is a far cry from the fast flow of power yoga I was used to to for many years. I learned that as as our lives and bodies change, so do we.

Having practised traditional yoga for over 40 years and being a qualified teacher for over 20, I have taught movement to corporations, schools, people on probation, groups and at festivals. My sessions are tailored for the groups I work with.
